Personal Biography

Hi, I am Chris Luce. I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to Calgary, Alberta when I was four years of age. Therefore, thankfully, only retaining very faint memories of the city having extremely cold winters (but Calgary still has it very cold moments).

I have been a technical person ever since I went to Disneyland for my first time. This trip made me extremely interested in how everything worked behind the scenes on many of the rides. This was especially true with The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. As soon as our family got our first computer, I was always trying out new things while staying on the edge with new technology.

Computer games, as well as console games, then became a big influence for me to learn as much as I could about computers and the makings of these games. This gave me the drive and hope that one day I would be able to make advanced video games of my own. The next logical step for me was to learn how to program computers on my own time, which eventually led me to learn many 3D packages.

This passion then pushed me towards attending the University of Calgary as part of their Game Design concentration. After two years of university, and my extreme interest in digital animation, I decided to switch my concentration and get involved in the technical side of 3D industry. I instantly fell in love with character/creature rigging, due to the high technical nature of the process and the great amount of problem solving.

At the beginning of 2006, I became the Technical Director of an animated television series called Raven Tales. After the near completion of the first season for the show, I decided to finish my degree at the University of Calgary. While finishing off this degree, I had a big interest in Human Computer Interaction, as well as performing research in Software Engineering.

At the start of 2009, I continued my education at the University of Calgary, pursuing my MSc in Computer Science under the supervision of Jonathan Sillito.
